Job Description

Our client, a property management / real estate company, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Construction Project Accountant. The candidate will be responsible for all job cost accounting for this clients construction projects, including project start-up and close-out, contract administration, subcontractor/vendor relations, project budgeting/reporting, and construction loan draws. Candidates will need to have experience with commercial, multi-family, or residential construction with a real estate developer or construction company.

Responsibilities

· Administration of all construction invoicing including collection, obtaining approvals, payment, and entering into accounting system (Yardi)

· Process and track monthly pay applications from general contractors

· Oversight of all financial matters for general contractor, subcontractor, and consultant contracts

· Manage internal contract tracking report to ensure the accuracy of invoices and monitor open contract amounts

· Implementation of a robust and efficient job costing system, including job cost codes

· Work with consultants and subcontractors in troubleshooting general invoice and contract-related issues

· Provide monthly job cost reporting with budget comparison for the leadership team and partner review

· Ensure all general contractors and subcontractors are in compliance with insurance requirements

· Initiate and monitor the process for collecting contractor lien waivers

· Respond to general internal requests for information and analysis of various construction job cost matters

· Support in preparing funding requests for monthly loan draws and partner contributions

· Support in preparing periodic construction-related reporting packages for Company leadership, partners, lenders, and government agencies

· Point person in responding to construction accounting-related questions from outside partners, lenders, and 3rd party accounting firms

· Develop and maintain positive relations with all subcontractors and project managers

Qualifications and Skills

· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and systems such as Yardi, MRI, Timberline, Sage, etc.

· Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures

· Familiarity with AIA documents G702 and G703 a plus

· Experience with creating financial statements and overseeing budgets

· Ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities, and able to work independently

· Ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment

· Excellent business acumen and communication skills

· Must foster a sense of teamwork and collaboration

· Must have a high attention to detail while maintaining awareness of the big picture

Education and Experience

· Bachelor's degree; Degree in accounting or finance preferred but not required

· Minimum 5 years of construction project accounting experience with a commercial, multi-family, hospitality or residential developer or construction company

· CPA a plus, but not required
